Whitney and her annoying Miltank.

Whitney's Miltank, appearing in Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal and their remakes, all developed and published by Nintendo and Game Freak, is one of the most RAGE provoking enemies ever.

Causes of RAGE[]

Her Miltank can easily provoke a lot of RAGE. First off, it has a very strong 490 Base Stat Total, which is stronger than all middle-staged starters. If the player has any male Pokémon (which will be most likely because the player's starter has a 87.5% of being male), it will DEFINITELY use Attract on them. THEN, it starts using Rollout, which increases in damage every time it hits. Combining with its base 100 Speed and its base 80 Attack, and this is a Pokémon that will sweep you after landing one Rollout. PLUS, it can use Milk Drink, which heals half of its HP and has 20 Power Points! It's way overpowered for a player with that much progress. ALSO, it also can make the player's Pokémon flinch by Stomp. In the remakes, Heart Gold and Soul Silver, her Miltank has the ability Scrappy, meaning you can't cheese your way through using a Ghost-type Pokémon like Gastly.

To make matters worse, since Whitney cries when she loses, the player has to wait some time before being able to obtain his/her badge. But the player can't even leave the Gym while waiting for Whitney to stop. While some people may think it is satisfying for her to cry over her loss, others think it is annoying, since they have to wait with nothing to do.

How to defeat[]

In Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal, there is a trainer who trades a Drowzee (Gold and Silver) or an Abra (Crystal) for a female Machop (named Muscle) located on the 5th floor of the Goldenrod Department Store. This is the best counter possible since it can't be attracted and resists Rock-type moves. In these games, you can also pre-catch a Gastly in Sprout Tower (Night exclusive), which is immune to Miltank's Stomp. Last, you can use a Geodude (resists Rock-type moves like Rollout) or even use your hatched Togepi to disable her with Sweet Kiss.

In Gold and Silver only, you can catch a Mareep on Route 32, which learns Thunder Wave (gives paralysis), lowering Miltank's Speed by half and may prevent it from moving. You can also catch a Pidgey and level it up to level 5 so it learns Sand-Attack, and simply spam Sand-Attack on Miltank to lower its accuracy, in order to minimize the chance of it ever landing a hit. It would be a good idea to level it up by using it to defeat the sages in Bellsprout Tower and gym leader Bugsy, so that it can take a hit in case Miltank lands a rollout.

In Heart Gold and Soul Silver, Gastly is no longer a counter to Miltank (see above), and giving it a status condition is harder since it has a Lum Berry, but Mareep and Flaaffy now gets Static, and all of Miltank's attacks make contact, giving you better chance of paralyzing it. You can also catch a Heracross, but its level range is from 2 to 5, and it doesn't get a Fighting-type move until level 19, where it gets Brick Break, so you have to grind.

Getting a female Geodude can be a viable option, as well.

Trivia[]

  • Whitney also has a Clefairy, but it isn't so RIDICULOUSLY OVERPOWERED compared to Miltank.
  • So far, no other Gym Leader is as infamous as Whitney and her Miltank.
  • Poketuber MandJTV's least favorite Pokemon is Miltank because of his experience with Whitney's Miltank in his first playthrough of SoulSilver.
